ENHEDUANNA

The Story of the World’s First Known Author

Upmarket historical novel debut, manuscript completed 2025

Based on the life of a woman who lived over four thousand years ago, the novel reimagines the birth of authored literature. Born into power but longing for freedom, Enheduanna is forced into priesthood and politics after King Sargon - her father - violently fractures the sacred order of Mesopotamia. Sent on a covert mission to stop a growing rebellion, she is guided by visions of the Moon Goddess Inanna and initiated into rites that awaken both her voice and her power.

Blending mythical reality and feminist reimagining, Enheduanna brings to life the voice of a woman history nearly erased.

PREVIOUS WORK

Letters of The Priestess

The Priestess is locked in a tower by the sea. She does not conform to the rules imposed by the world. She speaks against hypocrisy and false authority. With only pen and paper at hand, she writes her way to freedom, guided by the moon at night. Could her devotion to authenticity set her free? Will her voice be heard by anyone?

Letters of the Priestess is a hybrid collection of poetry and epistolary prose tracing a woman’s inward journey through silence, memory, and becoming. Lyrical and introspective, the work moves between the intimate and the mythic, giving voice to a self shaped by longing, transformation, and the search for meaning.

AUTHOR’S BIO

Paula Curteanu is a Romanian-born writer whose work explores identity, voice, and transformation across time. Drawing from a life shaped by censorship, displacement, and the search for self-expression, her writing moves between the intimate and the mythic. She is the author of Letters of the Priestess, a hybrid collection of poetry and epistolary prose, and her debut novel Enheduanna continues this exploration through historical reimagining and feminist perspective.

She lives between worlds—geographical, emotional, and imaginative—and writes to recover the voices history has nearly erased.
